Board Membership

I am thrilled to be on the Board of Directors of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle (BBST).

The BBST is committed to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and inclusion (JEDI). Together we affirm that every person has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We are committed to creating and cultivating a safe environment where all individuals feel respected and valued equally. We are committed to a nondiscriminatory and anti-racist approach and are committed to dismantling any inequities within our policies, systems, programs and services.

1-in-3 kids in America are growing up without a sustained, adult mentor in their lives today, and in the Triangle, there is an estimated 42,454 children living at or below the federal poverty level. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle exists to break the cycle of generational poverty through the creation and support of one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. We recruit, screen, match, and support the Big/Little (mentor/mentee) relationship. We view mentors and mentorship differently than other organizations. For us, it is more than tutoring or offering advice; it is building meaningful connections for a bigger future for our youth. All our efforts serve as tools to disrupt and dismantle the systems of racial inequality, oppression, and poverty.

I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 29 years. We are the parents of three children who are our world. Our family includes 6 fur babies, including 4 dogs and 2 cats. Growing up in a rural environment, our family has developed a love of nature. I have a particular fascination and appreciation for the beauty, strength, and resilience of trees. I envision a world where all people experience feelings of joy, fulfillment, peace, happiness, respect, and belonging. With a passion for coaching and mindfulness, I am currently pursuing an ICF accredited coaching certification and an ICF accredited Mindfulness Practitioner Certification.
